Blackthorn is Salsa's 140mm all-mountain 29er, built for riding any trail anywhere with confidence.

It is a well-balanced bike that takes on serious topography with gusto, remaining stable and confident on rugged descents while being a stunningly capable climber. With Split Pivot suspension dialed for maximum traction and pedaling efficiency, Blackthorn has the chops to ride all-mountain, all-out, all day. The 6061-T6 aluminum frame features the Split Pivot+ suspension design, providing 140mm of efficient travel that is fully active under braking and supportive throughout its stroke, paired with a 160mm suspension fork.

The Split Pivot system isolates pedaling forces and braking forces from each other, allowing Salsa to tune and optimize the bike for both independently. This results in excellent bump compliance, smooth and predictable braking throughout travel, and maximum traction. The Split Pivot+ design methodology allows the frame to be optimized for more than one travel class, meaning riders can swap control and shock links, in addition to the rear shock and fork, to switch travel to 165mm rear and 180mm front capability.

Blackthorn features progressive geometry that is long, low, and slack. A 64.6-degree head tube angle and short-offset fork feel confident when descending loose, steep trails, while a steep 76.5-degree seat tube angle provides a comfortable pedaling position. The Flip Chip 2.0, integrated into the shock link mount, allows simple, quick adjustments to bottom bracket height and head tube angle to account for personal preference, terrain, or wheel size. The frame also includes integrated on-bike storage with a dedicated repair kit location and multiple accessory mounts for versatility on every ride.
